Just some good advice from knowing my father-in-law for sooooo many years who was an "alcoholic" 15 years later (still recovering). One never truely recovers from alcohol's temptations.

Remember, alcoholics deny everything and "conveniently" remember none of their bad or abusive behavior. They say stupid things like, "Oh, it was the alcohol, not me, I don't even remember bashing you on the head with that coke bottle repeatedly."

Think about "your" future. You are seeing all the beginning "red flags" of an enabling bad relationship, and you are the enabler in this one. Do not empower him by supporting him in this poor drinking behavior.

Sure, let him go get the "help" and wash your hands free and clear of him, until one day years from now, that he may come back clean as a priest on Sunday, so-to-speak.

Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic. You can get him help and he can attend all the "AA" meetings in the world, but you will never be able to take the temptation for him wanting to have alcohol in the future, out of his mind.

Alcohol is like a disease, in that, once you have had it for years and built up a tolerance to it, you want it more and more, and in more abundance to get the desired effect you "require" now, and will do anything in your mind to get it, and resent the ones that keep you from it. This can lead to spousal and child physical abuse should he become the father of your children later in life. Hopefully…..not.

You have to ask yourself, "Is this relationship really worth it?" Is "your" future really worth it?" You sound much smarter and deserve much better than this poor relationship has to offer.

“The first thing Patrick Valenzuela did when he left the winner’s circle Sunday after going wire-to-wire to take the 21st TVG Pacific Classic with Acclamation was pay tribute to the man who started the $1 million race for Del Mar…. The second thing Valenzuela did was thank everyone who gave him one final chance to salvage a career that was sidetracked dozens of times because of drug and alcohol abuse. He lost years off his career, serving more than a dozen suspensions or dealing with license revocations.”
