Hypertrophic scarring is most often attributable to excessive tension on the incision closure. Some patients, however, de- velop hypertrophic scars despite the best efforts of the surgeon. As with skin slough, this usually involves the retroauricular area, which is less visible, but can occur in the preauricular area where it is a bad complication. Small volumes of dilute triam- cinolone are injected into the scars (not the adjacent normal tissue), sometimes more than once, and this usually improves the appearance of the scar significantly. An occasional patient will get true keloids of the facelift incisions, which are difficult to treat. Scar revision with immediate treatment with radiation is the best option is these difficult situations. Scar Therapy has been very effective for me. But, you need to use it every day. I leave the patches on until they fall off and then change them. Also, due to the cost of the patches; cut them to fit so you can make one patch go 2-3 uses.

changing the earring can be good if it was the jewellery that caused the problem.

Try using a 3% peroxide solution on it, one to two times a week.
and also cleaning it with tea tree oil once a day.

Eh, doing that won't necessarily make it go away, and could result in a healed piercing that isn't aligned, and that can make wearing a bar painful or impossible.

But that hypertrophic scarring should clear up eventually. Just make sure you're caring for the piercing properly. Only sea salt soaks for cleaning, avoid bumping, touching, or anything traumatic, don't twist the jewelry, avoid getting it caught on things, keep any kind of personal care product out of it.

And to help the scarring clear up, try some emu oil. Massage the oil into the bumps. If you can't find it, or are a vegetarian/vegan you can try a chamomile tea bag compress, I've never used them, but I know some people who I consider well educated on body piercing, swear by them. Try extra hot compresses too.

Good luck. Hypertrophic scarring is a pain in the butt, but like I said, with proper care it will usually go away eventually. But it can take time. When I had my industrial done, I ended up with horrible hypertrophic scarring, but it went away after, oh I'd say 5 months. And it looks awesome today.
