Rent a backhoe and operator and dig it up. The roots go deep so hand shoveling probably won't go deep enough. Bamboo is very very invasive.

The salt suggestion is not bad as long as you do not want to plant anything in the salted area for many many years.

If you ever plant bamboo again plant it in pots or some other way so the roots cannot spread

Sounds like you could help people sell their houses by redoing some of the problem areas, just like they do on HGTV. There are several shows where they have a minimum budget of $2,000 and fix up several rooms. Those houses always get sold.

To start with you need a business plan, then a marketing plan. I have an article about creating a business plan, below. I would start putting together a list of names, addresses and email addresses of all of your contacts. Get together a flyer and mail it to them. Give cash rewards to people for referrals. At least $25. The credit card Visa/MC work well for these.

Set up a free business web site and include before and after photos. Photos of murals and different painting techniques should work well. Add a price list.

If you would like other ideas you can send me an email

Foxtail palms have a very hard time dealing with frosts. They are considered zone 9b palms and will commpletely defoliate below 30 and likely die as well. They are also slow growing and will not recover easily from freezing temperatures if at all.

I have seen people plant them in pots in cold zones and manage to keep huge ones that are 20 feet tall because of their high celings. If your home has high celings then you might be able to do this and you can sink the palm in the ground during the summer and pick up the pot before frost hits in the winter.

Then you would be able to enjoy its looks all growing season, and it will even look like its planted in the ground.

    Good luck
