    try the nikon fm10 its about 300 i believe, theres a fuji film one but i forget the name. :x . i dont have one of those though, i have a promaster2500pk super, its nice and works pretty well(other than the 1 problem i had with the film haha) you could try looking on ebay. You could try going into a local camera store and seeing if they have used ones (hunts in massachusetts does) amazon and some other places sell used ones. used ones are usually just as good and alot cheaper! dont give your money to the school, they might get you some sort of camera that may not feel good at all in your hands. Use the money you have to buy something that really suits you.

    make sure you get one that is metal not plastic, like mine!
    (and invest in a uv filter, they're like 10 dollars and protect your lenses! and they help in the sunlight)
    and get a strap for your camera! get covers for both ends of the lens(es) and keep them in a bag!
