there is ways to make money on this

i did it about 10 years back when my kids were small, so they would have a holiday at the sea side nearly every weekend

i bought a new caravan, split new from the site, i worked out if i got back £250 a week during the summer (not all of it as i wanted to use it) then i would have broke even after a few years

in the first year i only let it to friends so i didnt make to much but it was good fun

so in the 2nd year i put an ad in the yellow paper (local free ads) and got a lot of response

but this led to the caravan being ruined by people being sick everywhere the tv and video getting broken and someone copying the keys as a short while after someone opened all the doors and again took the new tv and all the kids toys

the police are no help when this happens

so i went back to only renting to friends

but after a few years (about 5 in total) the site mgr told me i had to upgrade my caravan or get out, i didnt have that sort of money for a new one, but even worse i didnt have a place to put my caravan - which i was still paying for

the neighbour to my caravan exchanged his for a new one, only for his to be washed and valeted and re sold and put on a different pitch

my caravan was towed from its spot and placed outside the site, with the tow bar bent so it couldnt be moved

however i did manage to get it onto another site and then sell it

i wouldnt advise you to do this its lots of trouble, and with the sun newspaper offering the same holidays for £40 for a family of 4 it will be dificult to make money

im sorry if i go on a bit but it makes my blood boil with what happened all those years ago

thanks

it can be a con...lots of sites have 10year old rule...that if the static is over 10 years old, they wont have them kept on site..so check carefully with the site rules. try auto trader magazine for price and availability ideas (in the caravan section)
